Bradford Park Avenue 3, Harrogate Town 1

THE Vanarama National North table makes better reading today after Bradford Park Avenue banked another three points with an excellent home win over Harrogate Town in yesterday's keenly fought derby.

It was Darren Edmondson's second victory from the two full games since he was appointed and it eased the club's frustrations after Saturday's abandonment.

Avenue took a 2-0 lead into the break and made the points safe with a late third goal before Town grabbed a spectacular consolation.

Asked if it was a good win, the new boss said: "Every win is a good one but I thought this was a worthy one and I can't fault the players. I thought they played well and deserved it.

"Chib (Chilaka) did well with the opening goal but he has that talent – he'll find the back of the net. I haven't given him special licence to shoot on sight but he's a centre forward, so I don't need to.

"He has the class and the awareness and he should be getting 20 goals a season. Hopefully he will."

Chilaka played up front with new signing Liam Dickinson and the on-loan striker had an interesting duel with his former Guiseley team-mate Danny Ellis, the Harrogate skipper.

It was pressure from Dickinson on Town keeper Peter Cook that led to Chilaka's opening goal in the 12th minute. Cook was rushed into a clearance that dropped to Chilaka and he lashed a curling shot back past the keeper.

Dickinson had a hand in the second with a free-kick that deflected off the wall at the second attempt for a corner. Richard Marshall whipped the flag-kick in and Ryan Qualter converted it with a well-placed header.

Avenue substitutes Ben Gordon and Dylan Mottley-Henry combined well for the home side's third goal two minutes from time, Mottley-Henry slotting past Cook after taking Gordon's through-ball.

Town's solitary reply came two minutes into stoppage time when Brendan Daniels sullied Jon Stewart's clean sheet with a superbly struck free-kick from almost 40 yards.
