Buxton 1 Bradford Park Avenue 2

LEADING scorer Chib Chilaka netted a late winner to book Park Avenue a home tie with former Football League outfit Lincoln City in the first round of the FA Trophy on Saturday.

The home side took the lead in last night’s third qualifying round tie, being played at the third attempt after weather problems, but Avenue showed their character to come back and win.

Striker James Walshaw missed Saturday’s 3-1 home win over Stalybridge Celtic in the league through illness, but he came straight back into the side as a replacement for Jason St Juste.

Walshaw was involved early as his shot was deflected into the path of Chilaka whose effort was saved by Phil Barnes.

Bradford keeper Jon Stewart went down injured midway through the goalless first half, but he was able to continue after treatment.

Avenue went behind soon after the interval when a shot from Alistair Taylor was deflected past Stewart by his own centre back Billy Priestley. Richard Marshall went close and a Craig King effort hit the bar as the visitors pressed.

Ten minutes from time their perseverance was rewarded. Marshall headed a cross from the right flank into the top corner.

Two minutes later Chilaka grabbed the winner after a rapid counter attack and the Bucks’ night ended on a low when their former Bantams midfielder Ricky Ravenhill was sent off for a second yellow card offence.

Guiseley learned that they will be travelling to Burscough in Saturday's first round after they won 2-1 at Marine, last night.

Silsden took a strong grip on their West Riding County Cup derby tie at Thackley with a first half hat-trick from Wayne Morrison.

The Dennyboys were stunned as Morrison struck twice in two minutes after the half hour mark and added a crucial third just before the break.

Thackley hit back at the start of the second half, Thomas Dugdale cutting the deficit, and Ben Cohen ensured a tight finish when he scored in the 88th minute, but the Cobbydalers held on to reach the semi-finals.
