Salford City 1, Bradford Park Avenue 1

AVENUE and Salford City will meet again on Wednesday night at Horsfall Stadium after their FA Cup third qualifying-round tie ended all square at Moor Lane.

The victors of the midweek clash, which must finish on the night, will know who they face in the next round by then.

Tomorrow's draw brings in top National League sides such as Tranmere Rovers, Grimsby Town and Wrexham – not to mention neighbours Guiseley and FC Halifax Town.

The home side may have been from a division below Avenue on the football pyramid but they started confidently. Martin Drury's men had to withstand a torrid opening spell but they weathered that ten-minute storm and went on to dominate long periods of play.

They created chances throughout but needed a penalty to ensure they were in the draw, albeit as an either or.

Elliot Kebbie of Salford had turned in a man-of-the-match display for the Ammies but he blotted his copybook when he fouled Avenue opponent Luke Dean on the hour mark.

Dean and Chib Chilaka had combined well to get into the area but Kebbie's foul ended the move. Richard Marshall spotted the ball and drilled it low into the corner from 12 yards as Ammies keeper Jay Lynch dived the other way.

Salford had already had Luke Clarke yellow-carded and Avenue had forced their first of many corners before the home side opened the scoring in the ninth minute.

It was a rare error by player-coach Danny Schofield that led to the home side getting their noses in front. Schofield conceded possession on the halfway line and Richie Allen raced through and slotted past Bradford goalkeeper Jon Stewart.

Kebbie was soon influencing the game as he made a superb saving tackle to stop Avenue leading scorer Chilaka in his tracks.

Chilaka's constant threat up front led to a glut of corners and Bradford skipper Simon Ainge was on the end of many of them but failed to convert.

The home side were rattled and made a double change at the break – one of which was striker Danny Webber, whose goals had put Salford through against Avenue's National League North rivals Curzon Ashton in the last round, but he could not make the difference.
