BRADFORD Park Avenue will be determined to ensure there is no repeat of last season's early exit from the FA Cup when they break new ground in the north east tomorrow.

Martin Drury's team head to Consett's Belle View Stadium for a first-ever meeting between the clubs.

The Steelmen play their football in the top tier of the Northern League and beat the harsh winters with their 3G pitch.

Avenue join the rest of the National League North and South – step two on the non-League pyramid – in the FA Cup at this second qualifying round stage, having fallen at their first hurdle last season.

Former manager John Deacey guided Avenue to the first-round proper on three occasions but failed to reach that milestone in his final season in charge as his side were beaten 2-1 at AFC Fylde in a replay.

Fylde, who went on to finish second in Conference North – as it was then known – wrestled home advantage away from Avenue after a 2-2 draw at Horsfall Stadium. Chib Chilaka and Richard Marshall were the scorers that day, while Danny Frost netted in the replay.

Drury's only long-term injury concern is Adam Clayton but there are other changes to the squad.

Danny Hall, drafted in on loan from National League neighbours Guiseley as cover for Clayton, has returned to Nethermoor but Tom Burgin is back from his loan spell away from Horsfall.

Forwards Massiah McDonald and Paul Walker have gone on loan to Mickleover Sports and Farsley Celtic respectively.

McDonald has gone for a month to hone match fitness after spending a lot of time on the bench, while Walker will be with the Celts for three months as he makes his comeback from a back injury. Both have already scored for their temporary clubs.

Avenue go into the tie in good form as they are unbeaten in three league games after registering their first win of the campaign.

They have drawn against leaders Solihull Moors and promotion contenders Tamworth since beating AFC Telford United.

Avenue will be seen as favourites but the artificial surface may ensure Consett have the best chance of making home advantage count.

The Steelmen are also on a good run of form and have battled through three rounds to reach this tie, which has a £4,500 prize-fund windfall for the winner.

Consett won through all of those ties at home. League rivals Billingham Synthonia were despatched 8-0 in an extra preliminary-round replay, while Scarborough Athletic and Colne have also fallen at Belle View.

The Steelmen won last time out in the league and in their last three games, all at home, they have notched three wins, scoring ten goals.
