IT TOOK last season's top scorer Chib Chilaka five games to break his duck in this campaign but now the Bradford Park Avenue hitman can't stop scoring.

The striker has tucked away five goals in the last four games, a run that saw his side lose only once and pick up their first victory of the season.

Chilaka knew it would take him some time to make his impact this time around after picking up a thigh strain in pre-season training.

"To be honest, as soon as I got the injury I knew it would set me back a few weeks," he said.

"It wasn't a bad one but it was one of those you have to work on to get right and by the time I got my fitness back, the season was on top of us. So once the season came it was just a case of getting minutes on the pitch when I could.

"I didn't like that because it's very frustrating on the sidelines. I'm one of those players who just wants to be out there and helping the team on the pitch where I can affect games."

Chilaka worked hard on his rehabilitation with the Avenue medical staff and was determined to keep his spell on the sidelines a brief one.

He said: "When you get these setbacks, it's all about how you react and I did everything the medics told me and took things at my own pace but tried to push myself as well. I know my own body.

"Hopefully that's starting to pay dividends now and let's hope it's not just good for me but good for the club as well. If I can stay fit and score goals, we can start to move up the table.

"It's all about recovery and getting to go again and those positive thoughts help you through times when you're injured."
