Bradford Park Avenue 0 Derby County Under-21s 1
BRADFORD Park Avenue faced a Derby County side at Horsfall Stadium as part of the launch of the tribute season to Kevin Hector’s goal-scoring achievement of 50 seasons ago and it was a game won by a moment of sublime skill from a striker.
Hector was Avenue’s top-scorer in the 1965/66 season, netting 44 league goals, and later starred up front for the Rams in the top tier of English football.
The young Derby side who took on Bradford last night snatched a victory from a tight game with a goal just before the break.
It was a strike worthy of winning any match and it came from substitute Shaquille McDonald against the run of play. Avenue had enjoyed the better of the chances up until McDonald left a defender in his wake and drilled a shot from outside the area into the top corner.
THACKLEY were also victorious in their home friendly as they beat Barnoldswick Town 3-2 with goals from Chris Davey (2) and Craig Bentham.
