BRADFORD Park Avenue have a score to settle when they travel to take on Oxford City's foreign legions on Saturday.

Avenue have boosted their chances of survival in Vanarama Conference North with a magnificent run of results, but they would like to avenge the 5-0 mauling they suffered at home to Oxford in September.

Josetxo Lapoiyode and Felipe Barcelos were two of the scorers on that day as Avenue slipped to a fifth-straight defeat.

Oxford’s Marsh Lane Stadium has seen an array of overseas players this season as the club have fielded five Spaniards, two Nigerians, a Frenchman, a Zimbabwean and even a Brazilian.

City boss Justin Merritt even drafted in a Turkish goalkeeper for one game last month when his two main keepers were suspended following red cards.

The turnover of playing staff does not seem to affect their momentum, however, as Merritt’s side are seventh and are only four points off the play-off places.

They have a game in hand on fifth-place Hednesford Town who currently occupy the last play-off place and will be hoping to come up on the rails.

Merritt’s men have lost only one of their last nine league games, a run that has included three draws.

Avenue, who were deep in trouble just a few weeks ago, have climbed to 15th place and have all but banished the threat of relegation.

Avenue are seven points clear of the drop zone and still have games in hand over many of their rivals.

They also have momentum following Wednesday night’s 4-0 West Riding County Cup semi-final victory at Tadcaster Albion.
