BRADFORD Park Avenue have climbed to 16th in Vanarama Conference North and will be looking to continue their upward momentum on Saturday.

They face relegation-threatened Stalybridge Celtic at Horsfall Stadium and will be looking to build on Wednesday night's fine 3-2 victory over play-off contenders Chorley.

Garry Flitcroft’s Magpies had their wings clipped as two-goal Chib Chilaka came up with a late winner after the visitors had fought back from 2-0 down.

Avenue, who have diminished the threat of relegation, are four places higher than tomorrow’s visitors Stalybridge Celtic, and have played two fewer games.

Manager John Deacey said: “We’re not getting carried away because we know all we’ve done so far is give ourselves a chance. We’ve won a few games but its little steps and there is still a long road ahead.

“We did well against Guiseley and Hednesford and then drew against Colwyn Bay. I thought we played well at Tamworth without getting anything and we played well against Chorley.

“But it’s no good beating Chorley if you’re going to lose against Stalybridge or any of the other sides around us. Those are the games we have to get some points from because it takes points off our rivals.

“You want to win every game – but that’s not possible so you try to get as many points as you can. We only drew at home to Colwyn but that meant it was another game that they could only get one point from.”

Stalybridge are five points adrift of safety and are on a poor run. They have had some tough fixtures but have taken just one point from their last six games.

They have played leaders Barrow and Chorley, who were sixth at the time, in that run, along with Stockport County and North Ferriby United twice. Avenue and the Celts still have the reverse fixture to come.

It was postponed in January and rearranged for this coming midweek, but that has also been shelved to make way for the West Riding County Cup semi-final, which must now be replayed at Tadcaster Albion on Wednesday.
