Following the changes to the management positions over recent weeks the club now has a new press officer.

The club announced the appointment of Joe Cockburn who is studying Sports Journalism at Leeds Trinity University. He comes from Queensbury, has a keen interest in football and has been a regular visitor to nearby Halifax Town and Bradford City as well as the Avenue over the years.

Cockburn replaces Lewis Sale who had been with the club for three years but found the role too time consuming after moving day jobs and homes. The quick turnaround came as a relief to finance director Kevin Hainsworth.

He said, “I don’t think people outside the club, or the supporters for that matter, realise just how much work goes into running it. When you are a man down like we were when Lewis left, someone else has to combine that with what they are already doing.

“Everything Bradford City does to run their club we have to do, on a smaller scale but everything still needs doing. It’s the same at Thackley and Farsley and every other club in non-league football.

“There is so much that goes on behind the scenes. I can assure anyone that no one does this for an ego trip. We do it because we love the game and we love our clubs.

“It is a never ending job as well and it takes so many hours. Dealing with the football authorities, the Conference League, the stadium, the squad, there is always somewhere to be and something that needs sorting out.”

The newest recruit to the backroom staff, Cockburn, has shown a keen interest in writing for some time, last year being short listed for the best new blog award at the Football Blogging Awards for his ‘Sat In The Crowd’ blog.

He is looking forward to his time with the Avenue and will take up his duties gradually over the coming weeks
