AFC Fylde 2 Bradford Park Avenue 1
(after extra-time, 0-0 after 90 minutes)
AVENUE suffered a cruel exit from the FA Cup, losing a tense replay at AFC Fylde in extra-time.
It was yet another heroic display against the Vanarama North leaders. The pair have now met three times this season and this is the second time Avenue have lost 2-1 on the west coast.
The nervy cup tie swung from side to side and was balanced on a knife edge going into the extra period.
The hosts needed just two minutes to break the deadlock as Richie Allen’s shot beat Avenue keeper John Danby, despite him getting a hand to it.
Into the second extra period and Allen turned provider as his through ball sent Danny Lloyd away and the substitute kept his cool to slot home.
The two-goal cushion allowed Fylde some breathing space – but not for long. Avenue substitute Danny Frost fired a shot into the top corner minutes later to set the home side’s nerves jangling again.
Frost almost bagged an equaliser in stoppage time of extra-time but his shot flew just over the target, allowing the home side to hang on for the victory.
