AFC Fylde 2 Bradford Park Avenue 1

The Vanarama North’s form team, AFC Fylde, never looked like rattling in another high score against Avenue last night but the visitors still lost.

It was Bradford’s third defeat on the trot but yet another close game as Fylde, who had scored 16 in their last three, had to settle for a win by the odd goal.

The home side had the ball in the net early on by Liam Tomsett but it was ruled offside.

Avenue skipper Nathan Hotte then had two attempts in as many minutes but fired over on both occasions.

Fylde were enjoying a good spell and midway through the first half Tomsett headed in a Mike Potts cross to break the deadlock.

Five minutes before the break Avenue levelled through Scott Kerr, his shot flying in off the underside of the crossbar.

The goal sparked a flurry of action and Bradford could have led minutes later after Tomsett fouled Jack Rea in the area but home keeper Ben Hincliffe saved Paul Walker’s penalty kick.

Avenue stopper John Lamb then had to make a sharp save to deny Danny Rowe to ensure the scores were still level at the interval.

Rowe was not to be denied his goal and he put the Coasters 2-1 up just six minutes into the second half.

Avenue had chances through Grant Black, Kerr and Chib Chilaka but the home side were good value for their win.

The fifth and eighth placed clubs couldn’t be separated at Nethermoor as Guiseley and Colwyn Bay played out a 1-1 draw.

Tom Buckley put the Welshmen ahead with a free-kick but Lions forward Josh Wilson, back on loan from FC Halifax Town, levelled with a neat finish.

The point moved Mark Bower’s men up to fourth in the table but Colwyn dropped one place because of other results.

Goalscorer Wilson said he was in the right place at the right time: "I've seen strikers get ten, 15 goals a season standing at the back post from corners. Ben Parker has done well to get across his marker and, luckily enough, it's come straight to me."

Brighouse Town suffered a heavy home defeat in the Evo-Stik Division One North as visitors Spennymoor Town ran out 4-1 winners.

First-half goals from Liam Henderson and Christopher Mason had the visitors in a strong position and, although Isaac Baldwin halved the deficit early in the second half, Gavin Cogdon and Liam Dodds added further goals for Spennymoor.

In the same division tonight, third-placed Farsley travel to mid-table Darlington 1883, who are five points worse off but have played one fewer fixture.

Eccleshill United progressed in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Cup with an eventful 5-3 second round win at AFC Emley, while in the NCEL Premier tonight Albion Sports host Handsworth Parramore.
