Bradford Park Avenue 3, Hyde 2

Bradford Park Avenue had a scare against Hyde at Horsfall Stadium but fought back to return to winning ways.

Avenue suffered their first Vanarama Conference North defeat of the season on Saturday and looked as though they were going to follow that by losing at home to the basement outfit.

The visitors had the first chance after forcing an early corner. They were on the attack again soon after when Louis Almond raced through and laid the ball off for Steve Tames but he shot wide of John Lamb's goal.

Avenue's first opportunity was also from a set-piece but Hyde keeper Christian Thewlis saved Grant Black's well-struck free-kick.

However, Thewlis was beaten midway through the first half. Paul Walker threaded a pass through to Chib Chilaka and he fired home.

Hyde hit back just three minutes later when Almond's shot from outside the area beat Lamb and found the bottom corner of the net.

Avenue almost retook the lead but Joe Colbeck's shot struck a defender and deflected onto the bar.

The visitors looked far from a bottom-of-the-table outfit and from the counter-attack Tames shot just wide of the foot of the post.

New loan signing Julian Banton was making his Avenue debut and could have marked it with a goal. The big defender was on the end of a Walker cross early in the second half but he put the header over.

Hyde made the most of that escape by taking the lead in the 56th minute. Connor Hughes' cross was met by Tom Bentham and he steered a glancing header past Lamb.

Avenue levelled when Chilaka scored his second, the striker finding the bottom corner as he converted a Martin Drury corner.

The visitors still refused to roll over and almost got their noses in front again. Instead it was the home side who did find a third goal to win the contest.

Substitute Danny Frost played in Chilaka and although Thewlis tipped his shot over, Ryan Qualter headed home from the resulting corner.
