    Hector is national champion

Ilkley's Hector Haines is a British champion, the Airienteer making the long trip to the North of Scotland worthwhile by winning the M20 Elite race.

With only a few of the 30 controls left on the 11.3-km course, Rhodri Buffett (South Wales) was leading but he was overtaken by Haines and Doug Tullie (Edinburgh University).

Victoria Stevens, also of Ilkley, was fourth in the 7.4km W20 Elite course, finishing in 64min 37sec, just 23 seconds outside a podium place.

There was also some local success in the Premier Relays, with Harden's Becky Carlyle a member of the Edinburgh University team who came third.

Hector Haines was in the third-placed Edinburgh team in the Men's Premier Relay.

Airienteers also did well in other age-group races, Ian Nixon coming 12th behind some senior internationals in the 15.7km M21 Elite race.

Other notable runs at senior level included (positions in brackets) - M35: Steve Watkins (tenth), Martyn Broadest (19). M45; Peter Haines (17). M55: Tony Carlyle (12). M65: Robert Ker (seventh). W35: Heather Phipps (eighth). W40: Ruth Ker (11). W55: Susan Stevens (12).

At junior level, Guiseley's Joe Woodley continued his good form with third in the 3.1km M12 race, while Florence Haines of Ilkley was third in the 4.1km W14 race. Chloe Haines was sixth in the W18.

Airienteers were also well represented in the relays, with Peter Haines, Andrew Kelly, and Tony Carlyle finishing third at M50 and Chloe Haines, Beth Woodley, and Florence Haines third at W18.
