Baildon Runners' Club Review of the Year 2008

The club committee reported that the club have had several members leave the club for various personal reasons and, to compensate for this, the club has had an equal number of new members joining.

At this stage last year the club had 108 first claim running members, and still has 108 such members with a number of people on a "prospective" list. These are people who have been coming for a little while to Sunday morning "beginner/improver" sessions but who have not yet signed up as a full member.

The club has taken part in various relays during the year and has made a good start in this season’s Winter League. Some members took part in the Off Road League which was a new fixture for 2008 organised by Liz & Clive Boothman. The club hopes that this will be continued in 2009.

Another new fixture has been the Winter Fell League organised by Simon Bowens which is ongoing. On the financial side the picture is OK though we shall be proposing a modest increase in subs from April to keep pace with rising costs, and the additional demands on club funds.

The club would like to encourage more people to stay behind on Thursday evenings after the run to socialise with a sandwich or two. The numbers attending the quiz nights has certainly grown and rewards the efforts that Jane & Nigel Dooley put in on those evenings.

The most significant change though, has to be on the coaching side. This year Dave Noble completed the level I and II coaching courses, and Ian Ferris has completed level I and is half way through level II. Along with Peter Vickers, who already has level II, the club will have three qualified coaches to start the new year in April.

The social events have been well attended, the highlight, of course, being the Christmas party that took place on December 5th at Baildon Golf Club and was well attended with around 87 people there. It was a very enjoyable evening and special thanks are due to Debra Kaznowski for collecting the monies, booking the DJ, organising the raffle prizes etc. Thanks too to Sue Moore and Liz Caven for selling the raffle tickets and to Hamid Houman for booking the venue. But mainly thanks go to everyone who attended for making it such a great night.
