Six top under-17s from Bingley Harriers have joined the England Athletics-Yorkshire & Humberside Regional Development Talent Squad, sponsored by CE Electric UK.
The half-dozen on a long list as potential 2012 Olympians are certainly a varied lot.
Matthew Chambers is a long jumper, triple jumper and sprinter, Jo Bullock a 300 metre hurdler and long jumper and Carly Robertson a middle-distance runner.
Josh Allen’s speciality is the 400m, Tom Crowley’s main events are the 1500m and the steeplechase and Adanna Okeahialam is a hammer thrower.
The 200-strong 2008-09 Talent Squad has been selected by England Athletics based on the athletes’ recent competition results and performance during the summer season.
All team members are deemed to be the best in the Yorkshire and Humberside region, showing the most potential for success at the 2012 Olympics.
Marie Dixon, regional manager at England Athletics- Yorkshire & Humberside, the regional governing body for the sport said: “This year’s squad has some outstanding talent.
“There are definitely a number of young athletes that will be ones to watch in 2012 and we hope that the additional training and support they receive from us and CE Electric UK will help them get to the top.”
Geoff Earl, head of connections delivery at CE Electric UK added: “This is the third year that our company has been England Athletics-Yorkshire & Humberside’s key corporate partner.
“We believe athletics is an excellent sport to support as it is accessible to all youngsters and improves motivation and fitness.”
