A total of 98 runners, including a record 31 members from the host club, turned out for the fifth running of Scarborough AC's Carewatch 10 mile race, which was held at Wykeham on Sunday, October 12.

Whilst the competitors had to cope with almost 3 miles of steady climb at the start of the race, they could enjoy some fine autumnal weather, and a refreshing light breeze during the second half of the race back down to Wykeham.

The winner was Scarborough AC's Mark Colling who finished in 59min 26secs. He led the race from start to finish.

Mark was followed home in second overall by Bingley Harriers' Mary Wilkinson, who overhauled Adam Fozzard of the City of Hull AC in the final mile, to break the women's course record in an outstanding time of 61.43, the third fastest this year by a Yorkshire athlete.

The race also incorported the North Yorkshire 10 mile road race championships. The women's individual winners, were first, Mary Wilkinson, second Erica Johnson of Swaledale Runners, whilst Scarborough AC's Jane Hamp collected the bronze medal.
