The Peco Cross-Country League, bringing together in two divisions 14 clubs from east Leeds through to Wakefield to Ilkley, had its traditional final race at Eccleshill last weekend.
The 4.5-mile Eccleshill course starts and finishes at the Immanuel School playing fields, but follows a course down to the Yorkshire Water site at Esholt, and circles round Buck Wood. The cold weather made the going hard and faster than usual.
The home club's Ladies team put in a fine performance to finish third on the day in the 1st Division, and cement this position in the final table. Claire Elener led the team home in 13th place, ably supported by Alison Leader, Lindsay Winler and Susan Birbeck.
An equally impressive performance was by Guiseley-based Airecentre Pacers whose Ladies team achieved promotion to the Premier Division. The performances of Karen Best and Wendy Nicholson augur well for next year.
In the premier league, Ilkley ladies finished third, with Alison Bennet coming fifth in the end-of-season rankings.
Eccleshill's silverware was enhanced with overall third places in their age categories for Mick Hogan (M45) and Arthur James (M70).
