Yorkshire Four Premier: Wibsey 7 Rotherham Phoenix 15
WIBSEY'S hopes of promotion from Yorkshire Division Four disappeared in a fractious home defeat to leaders Rotherham Phoenix.
Victory and a further ten points from their double-header at Ossett on April 7 would have put the Bradford side right in the mix, but they now face playing out what has still been a season of progress.
A match that was notable for the hosts having three players sin-binned for querying the decisions of referee David Brooksbank – Luke Helliwell, Ross Simpson and skipper James Brown – ended with the home side's James Sawyer being sent off after the final whistle for giving the referee a piece of his mind.
Wibsey, who will now face a disciplinary hearing a week on Thursday, went behind to a converted try but levelled when Brown went over and Sawyer landed the conversion.
Phoenix got a second try before half-time and, as the match became ever more niggly, they added a penalty in the second half after the sin-binnings.
Wibsey's man of the match was Michael Kite.
