WIBSEY have pulled a rabbit out of the hat by signing former Bulls and Cougars player Luke Helliwell.

"He could play fly half or he could play inside centre," said Wibsey chairman and secretary Steve Brooke of the ex-Bradford & Bingley and Wibsey Warriors player.

The Yorkshire Division Five champions have also welcomed back flanker Rob Bourne, who has done duty with Bradford Salem, while also signing Old Brodleians prop Joe Worsnop.

Wibsey, who also hope to give some 18-year-olds from sister club Wibsey Warriors an opportunity, will play in a revamped Yorkshire Division Four North West.

They will play 14 league matches before a split which will pair the top four from North West against the top four from the equivalent South East Division and, likewise, the bottom four from each section will square up.

Points will be retained from matches against clubs in their own section and will be added to by the eight games against teams from the opposite section.

Wibsey, who have welcomed back former coach Dave Grayson to look after the backs, have also entered a new county competition, the Yorkshire Vase, which will have the carrot of a potential Twickenham appearance for the winners.

BP Chemicals visit Northfield Road for a first-round tie in the fourth-tier event on September 2.

Matches must be played on or before October 14 and Baildon are at Leeds Modernians, while Aireborough host Knottingley, Skipton travel to Harrogate Pythons, Bramley Phoenix visit Thirsk and Burley host Rotherham Phoenix.
