Keith Dyas Cup: Wibsey 14 Mosborough 35

YORKSHIRE Division Five champions Wibsey have been handed their first defeat since December 2015.

They were beaten 35-14 at home by Mosborough in a round-robin match in the Keith Dyas Cup – a competition for Yorkshire Division Four and Division Five clubs.

"It was a horrible day at Northfield Road and we needed four tries in the first half when we had the wind behind us, and we only got two," explained Wibsey's secretary Steve Brooke.

"We had our first-choice pack missing but all of the lads who played had figured in our league campaign, and Mosborough (runners-up to Wibsey in the league) deserved their victory.

"We led 14-0 at half-time but they played the conditions better than us by kicking the ball into the corners and scored five pushover tries in the second half and converted them all."

Wibsey's first-half points came from Bradford Salem's Dean McNicholl, who was guesting for the hosts as he is a social member, and Jimmy Rodgers, with both tries being converted from the touchline by Brad Wright.

Wibsey's man of the match was Sam Foulds, playing in the second row rather than the back row, with prop Dan Hartley runner-up.
