Yorkshire Division Five: Mosborough 10 Wibsey 15

WIBSEY can see the promised land of Yorkshire Division Four after defeating their closest rivals away from home.

Mosborough have been waiting for this clash since Wibsey beat them at Northfield Road in October, and both sides had their periods of pressure in what was a tense but proper game of rugby that ebbed and flowed.

Wibsey were on defensive duty for the opening ten minutes before the hosts had a player sin-binned for kicking James Birkbeck in the 11th minute.

Brad Wright landed that penalty but the visitors then went behind to a converted try on the half-hour.

The euphoria didn't last long, however, as flanker Chris Farley scored for Wibsey four minutes later, James Sawyer going over on the stroke fo half-time, wirth Wright's conversion making it 15-7.

The visitors' defence was awesome in the fading light of the second half, and Mosborugh did not score until the 75th minute when they popped over a penalty to be sure of a losing bonus point.

Wibsey had one last scare when it seemed as if the referee had blown for full-time, only to award Mosborough a penalty.

However, they knocked on and Wibsey booted the ball off the pitch to claim a notable win.

Sawyer was man of the match for Wibsey, despite being sin-binned in the 54th minute for a high tackle.

If Mosborough win at Knaresborough on Saturday, January 7, then Wibsey will be promoted on the same day as long as they defeat visitors Thirsk.
