Yorkshire Division Five Cup semi-final: Stanley Rodillians 19 Wibsey 3

ALTHOUGH James Sawyer, who later retired with a head injury, put Wibsey ahead with a penalty in the 18th minute, having missed one nine minutes earlier, that was all that the Bradford club could muster against opponents whose defence was simply better.

Wibsey travelled with only 17 for this one-off tie, and also had to provide the referee as the official whistler cried off at 12.30pm, visiting touch judge Paul Hibbert - a Yorkshire Society referee - filling in.

Rods hit back with a converted try in the 23rd minute and an unconverted one ten minutes later to lead 12-3 at half-time and added another converted effort in the 56th minute as Wibsey gave as good as they got.

Flanker Chris Farley and winger Bruce Mpofu, who passed inside when he could have gone for the line himself, shone for the visitors, who have had a season of progress.

For that, thanks are due to the coaching staff of Andy Rose, Rob Greenwood and Farley, and back-room boys Matt and Dan Hartley, Andrew McDonnell and Paul Garside.
