Yorkshire Division Five Cup: Rossington Hornets 32 Wibsey 22
AFTER what manager Steve Brooke called "the worst half of rugby we have played in five matches", Wibsey recovered from a 27-3 half-time deficit to narrow the gap to ten points ahead of Saturday's second leg at Northfield Road.
All that the visitors, who were missing six regulars, could manage in the first half was a James Sawyer penalty, and that came in the first minute!
They conceded an equalising penalty after 17 minutes and conceded tries in the fifth, 18th, 23rd and 35th minutes, two of which were converted.
But James Birkbeck, sin-binned himself in the 28th minute, sounded a rallying cry at half-time, and Wibsey hit back with tries by Danny Conroy (43 minutes), Stuart Rushworth (50) and Dan Callaway (78) – his first for the club – Kyle Carter adding two conversions after Sawyer went off during the interval.
