Yorkshire Division Five: Wibsey 21 Rossington Hornets 3

WIBSEY'S players could be suffering from nose bleeds after they climbed to third in the table on the back of their fifth win in seven matches.

A combination of snow and a deteriorating Northfield Road pitch caused the match to be abandoned after 65 minutes but the result stands, elevating the hosts above both the visitors and Garforth.

Hornets kept the ball in the forwards for much of the first quarter but conceded a try after 17 minutes when centre Danny Conroy, who showed a cracking hand-off, ran in from halfway.

Fly half James Sawyer converted and, although Hornets hit back with a penalty, Wibsey led 7-3 at half-time.

Interval replacement Simon Birkbeck scored five minutes into the second half, and their third try, made by the pack, went to man of the match Mark Darragh in the 49th minute, Sawyer converting both to make his tally eight from his last eight.

The weather and the pitch denied Wibsey the chance of a fourth try and a bonus point but they will still be in good heart for their trip to second-placed Hornsea on Saturday.
