Yorkshire Division Five: Wibsey 35 Stanley Rodillians 10

ALTHOUGH mathematically, Wibsey could still be promoted after this superb victory, they are likely to have to content themselves with being the only club to defeat the two who are likely to be promoted this season – Stanley Rodillians and Hornsea.

After a performance that was on a par with their triumph over Hornsea, winger Jimmy Rodgers took the man of the match award for his hat-trick of tries, but others were not far behind him, such as Bruce Mpofu, Mark Darragh and James Birkbeck.

Wibsey certainly chose the day to perform at Northfield Road as there were 14 photographers – a photography class had dropped by for the afternoon – and a players' reunion.

Elliott Gray set the ball rolling for the hosts with a sixth-minute try which covered two-thirds of the field and was notable for its excellent backing-up.

James Sawyer then added the first of his five conversions, Rogers adding tries in the 11th and 24th minutes as the Bradford club established a 21-0 half-time lead.

Table-toppers Rods had a 20-minute spell of dominance in the second half, scoring tries in the 61st and 75th minutes, but there was no stopping Wibsey as flanker Chris Farley (71 minutes) and Rodgers (80 minutes) added further tries.

The only downside for Wibsey were the sin-binnings of the Birkbeck brothers (James and Simon) and Richard Lucas.

The fifth-placed club have three league matches left before they set their sights on the Yorkshire Division Five Cup.
