Yorkshire Division Five: Wibsey 32, Hornsea 20

WIBSEY had what Steve Brooke called "the best performance in the five years that I have been team manager" as they ended the visitors' 100 per cent record this season.

He said: "For once we had 20 proper rugby players on the teamsheet and we made Hornsea look average.

"This result is a testament to the work that Andy Rose, Jamie Vogel and Rob Greenwood are doing with us, and the endeavour that we put into rucking and mauling on Thursday night was rewarded by the backs who were like an extra set of forwards."

However, Wibsey had to do it the hard way, coming back from 13-3 down after 31 minutes at Northfield Road as leaders Hornsea capitalised on dominating the opening ten minutes.

Bryn Worsley got Wibsey on the board with a penalty and flanker Chris Farley scored their only try of the first half as they turned round 13-8 behind.

But tries by Worsley and Scott Smith and Jon Nall gave Wibsey clear water, Dan Horsfall converting two from the touchline.

Although Hornsea hit back with a converted try to make it 27-20, Wibsey sealed their win with a 79th-minute try from man of the match Bruce Mpofu, although Adam Armitage pushed him hard for the award.
