Bradford Salem hoping West Leeds can overturn Wath

West Leeds seem set to play their crucial SSE Yorkshire Division Two match at home to Wath-upon-Dearne tomorrow, despite having held their annual players’ dinner tonight.

Victory for Wath would see them promoted over second-placed Bradford Salem, and understandably Bradford Salem didn't want tomorrow's contest to go ahead.

Salem’s first-team manager Neil Klenk said: “By West Leeds having their players’ dinner tonight, it surely puts them at a disadvantage for tomorrow's game, which is being played so late in the season because of the cup success of Wath, who played in the RFU Senior Vase final at Twickenham last Saturday.

“All I want is a fair contest, and I feel sorry for the Wath players who should surely be able to let their hair down at their players’ dinner.

“But I was getting text messages from the Wath players tonight saying that they were taking things very seriously and only drinking coke.

“I am taking that news with a pinch of salt but if it is true then so much the better.”

Klenk added: “E-mails started as early as last Tuesday but I was getting the feeling that someone in authority was pulling the strings.

“Nothing seemed to be happening and then there was a flurry of e-mails today.

“My head says that Wath will win and be promoted but my heart is hoping that West Leeds win.”
