With Salem’s first-team match postponed after scheduled opponents Leodiensians claimed the pitch was too hard to play on, the Heaton club’s reserve side took centre stage in front of a large 200-strong crowd.
Their match against North Ribb was switched to the main pitch at Shay Lane and they made the most of it to clinch an emphatic victory to stay top of West Aire-Wharfe Division One.
Salem had entered the game on the back of a 55-0 thrashing of Huddersfield YMCA and confidence was high.
They took a 7-0 lead courtesy of a try from flanker Rob McKay, full back Sam Riley adding the extras. The home side continued to dominate and a further try from centre Matt Whitford, improved by Riley, gave them a 14-0 advantage at the break.
Roared on by the vociferous crowd, the Heaton side scored further tries from speedy winger Ryan Finan and prop Dave Luxton, both improved by the accurate boot of Riley, to seal an excellent bonus-point win.
Salem’s first-team fixture against Leos is now due to be played on February 11.
