Yorkshire Division One: Keighley 46 Bradford Salem 3

FOUR tries in 16 minutes late in the second half capped Keighley's most complete performance of the season so far in Yorkshire Divisioon One.

They only led 13-0 at half-time but then scored 33 unanswered points to not only make it two wins out of three for the campaign, but also give rise to optimism for the months ahead.

No-one at the interval saw the demolition coming but it was all part of at times a strange afternoon where it rained on three occasions but stopped as soon as it had started.

In what was sometimes a feisty affair, Salem, who came into the contest with an identical won one, lost one record, had two players sin-binned and Keighley one.

Both sides sized one another up in the opening phases, and the first flashpoint came after eight minutes when Keighley were threatening a try.

Salem centre Andy Robinson saw yellow for retaliating to an alleged bite, and a minute later they were 7-0 down, Rob Baldwin's neat offload allowing fellow back-rower Lucas Uren to gain some vital metres.

From the next phase, winger Jason Kay maintained his happy try-scoring knack, with fly half and skipper Alex Brown nailing the conversion from the left.

After 27 minutes, Salem scrum half Matt Booth landed a penalty, but Brown was quick to respond in kind.

Then, after visiting centre Harry Hall was sin-binned in injury time for a high tackle on the effective former Salem forward Dan Snowden, Brown was on target again to make it 13-3.

Salem could have done with the first points of the second half, but instead Keighley extended their lead with a try for winger Joe Sugden from a popped Snowden pass.

Five minutes later came a key phase of the game after referee Graeme Hall had spoken to both skippers following a brawl.

Salem at last built up some momentum, but couldn't gain any points as winger Ryan Smith couldn't quite get on the end of former Bees fly half James Pinder's grubber kick to the right corner.

With the visitors now trying to force things, Robinson's pass in the 64th minute was intercepted by Joe Copperwaite, who ran in from distance for Brown to convert.

What's more, Salem full back Danny Belcher was penalised for a late tackle on Copperwaite as he was dotting the ball down, but, although they couldn't make any gain from that kick to touch, full back Alfie Seeley's break six minutes later was carried on by Jack Atkinson and finished off by No 8 Baldwin.

Brown, clearly enjoying the leadership role, added the conversion and, although replacement Smith Brown was sin-binned, Keighley not only survived that but prospered as Seeley was the next to claim an interception try in the 74th minute.

Brown again converted, and also improved the try five minutes later by Uren as Keighley finished off their derby rivals in style.
