Leicester Lions 37 Wharfedale 28

LEICESTER Lions came out on top in a high-scoring match to halt Wharfedale's recent winning run in National Two North.

Alex Wilcockson opened the scoring after two minutes with clever team inter-passing before Jon Boden added a penalty in the 12th minute.

This sparked Wharfedale into life and from a five-metre scrum George Hedgley was driven over for a try, Tom Barrett adding the extras.

The Greens scored again after good link play between Tom Barrett and Robbie Davidson, the former scoring the touchdown.

Devon Constant seized on a poor clearance kick and regained the lead for Lions.

Right on half-time, Wilcockson escaped the Wharfedale defence to score his second try.

Wharfedale were reduced to 14 at the beginning of the second half when Matty Houghton was sin-binned allowing the home side to capitalise through Thomas Aviss.

Despite the disadvantage, a Dan Stockdale try brought Wharfedale to within eight points, but another Jon Boden penalty kept the away side at bay.

Luke Veebel scored Lions fifth try, breaking tackles down the right flank to win the game, despite a late try by Wharfedale skipper Philip Woodhead which secured a bonus point.
