5:21pm Sunday 15th January 2012 in Otley By John Finch
Otley 20, Caldy 35
Having to make three changes in their back line, Otley were not quite the force that had stretched leaders Loughborough the previous week.
The Cross Greeners had back-row forward Toby Williams making his career debut at centre and were not helped when losing lock Howard Parr on 35 minutes.
They did create chances but could not finish enough of them.
Winger James Twomey scored a penalty but the good work was undone when a penalty was conceded at the restart, which led to fly half John Broxon levelling with a drop goal after a five-metre line-out.
A defensive error allowed Caldy’s Shaun Woof through before Josiah Dickinson finished off but Otley replied when No 7 Daniel Temm scorched through the middle. He was pulled down at the line but a quick release had fly half Tom Rock cleverly evading cover to go in at the posts for Twomey to convert.
Two Andrew Souter penalties put Caldy ahead at half-time but Otley fought back as full back Ben Collins crossed near the posts.
The visitors incurred three yellow cards to Otley’s one and, having returned to full strength, they moved into a commanding position with tries from Andrew Barnish, Souter and Sam Russell.
Otley produced a spirited finish but it only amounted to a try for Curtis Wilson.
