OTLEY travelled to went to Westleigh Park in the hope they would finally tame Leicester Lions but ended up being subdued 38-13 in their National League Two North clash.

The visitors have never beaten the Lions away and, while they played some attractive rugby in the first ten minutes, it was the hosts who scored first.

A good pass from Jon Boden gave Ian Smith a run in under the posts after 12 minutes, with James Morgan adding the conversion.

The home team went over again five minutes later, having stretched Otley across the park, Drew Rudkin scoring and Boden adding the conversion.

Otley continued to play some good rugby. However, having got into the Lions' 22, a loose pass was intercepted and put the visitors back into their own half before a forward pass broke down the attack.

Otley's persistence finally paid off when, with a penalty in the pocket, Freddie Watson was on the end of a powerful scrum deep in the Lions 22, with Joe Rowntree being sure-footed again with the conversion.

Just before half-time, Lions No 8 Dan Martin went through for Morgan to score and convert, making the score 21-7.

Two early Rowntree penalties for Otley cut the deficit in the second half and although they had the edge in the forwards, they were unlucky with some of the outcomes.

The game slipped away from the visitors as a second try from Morgan and two by Henry Clement put any hopes of a revival beyond them.
