Yorkshire Division Two: Old Crossleyans 30 Old Grovians 35

OLD Grovians confirmed their survival for another season in Yorkshire Division Two but while it was an excellent game for the neutral to watch, it was nerve-wracking for the home or away fans.

Going into the game, the visitors could still be relegated but knew that a win would take the pressure off.

However, it was a much bigger game for the hosts, who, alongside Leodiensian, were also battling to avoid being demoted alongside Sheffield Medicals.

Old Crossleyans, who were also relegated last season, were soon ahead with a converted try, but Ben Brown narrowed the gap with two penalties inside the next six minutes.

Running the ball back well via full back Anthony Griffin after Crocs resorted to a kicking game, the visitors also made ground in midfield via Joe Garforth, who scored their first try, Brown's conversion making it 13-7.

The home side reduced the gap a few minutes later with a well-taken penalty but Old Grovians stretched their lead again just before half-time via Josh Feeny, Elliot Cosgrove's conversion putting the visitors 20-10 ahead.

However, they then pressed the self-destruct button by conceding a needless penalty and then allowing Old Crossleyans to score a converted try and level the scores at 20-20.

Stirred into a response, Brown was then held up over the line but Griffin then put in Pad Burns for a try.

The hosts then had a man yellow carded for interference and, despite having a scrum turned over, Grovians scored next via Jaskaran Deu, Brown's conversion making it 32-20.

Having failed with a long-range penalty, Old Crossleyans then scored a try after pressure down the middle, and secured a second vital bonus point with a fourth try on full time.

With Leos defeating Wath 31-0, Old Crossleyans are a point in front of them with two games left, the last of which for Leos is Old Grovians at home on April 22!
