Yorkshire Division Two: Roundhegians 34 Old Grovians 29

OLD Grovians were looking to gain some points at Roundhegians and came away with two that could have been four if they had kept the penalty count down.

The first seven minutes was all about indiscipline with the visitors giving away six penalties and Roundhegians two, and the hosts moved the ball across the pitch to score in the opposite corner, a well-taken conversion making it 7-0.

The visitors went close via full back Anthony Griffin and hooker Matthew Worrall, whose line-out throws were again accurate, and they levelled matters when Pad Burns profited from Jack Hartley's long pass to score in the corner, Ben Brown adding the long-range conversion.

Parity lasted less than a minute, however, as Roundhegians added a penalty and another try in the corner, but, despite having Lewis Brook sin-binned, Grovians landed a Brown penalty to only be trailing 15-10 at the interval.

Roundhegians were first to score a try in the second half but Griffin's run down the wing led to centre Harry Garforth going over from ten metres out, Brown's conversion making it 22-15.

The hosts then capitalised on another Grovians error to score a fourth try but the visitors bounced back with a third try, Griffin running up the middle to score using his momentum and quick side-steps.

Brown's conversion took the visitors back to five points in arrears but Roundhegians' fifth try was under the posts.

Old Grovians didn't panic, however, and hooker Worrall showed that he too has a side-step to score their fourth try and earn them not only a try bonus point but a losing bonus point as well.
