Yorkshire Division Two: Old Grovians 17 Old Rishworthians 33

AFTER from a bit of confusion over the earlier kick-off time due to the England v Wales match afterwards, the game was evenly contested in the first half, although injuries and missed tackles allowed Old Rishworthians to take the upper hand in the second half.

Rish were ahead after two minutes with a simple try and, following a couple of decisions that went against the hosts, Grovians levelled the scores when  Christian Baines reached out to score.

Tackling too high gave the Halifax visitors the chance to score a second try, and the kept the scoreboard rolling with two penalties to lead 16-5 at the break.

However, the home side started the second half with intent, Charles Cockshott and Dean Hogg carrying well, with the latter offloading to Baines, who crossed for a second try, this time from five yards out, Ben Brown's conversion making it 16-12.

But injuries and a yellow card for Cockshott gave Rish an edge, even thought the match went to uncontested scrums as the home side had no competent hooker.

Missed tackles led to the visitors landing a third penalty, and they added two tries and a conversion to led 33-12 with a four-try bonus point in the bag.

However, the home side had the final say when good hands and quick support helped Matt Worrall give Pad Burns the chance for a third try.

Old Grovians must now be hoping that they will give a better performance and that their injured players make a speedy return as they host second-placed Keighley on Saturday and travel to third-placed Moortown on April 2.
