Ben Hooper on his way to join Leeds Carnegie

Leeds Carnegie have signed former Wharfedale prop Ben Hooper from Rotherham Titans on a one-year contract.

The former Leeds Met student, who worked at Headingley on match days, is the younger brother of Leeds legend Stuart Hooper, who was part of the Powergen Cup-winning team of 2005 and remained loyal to the club following relegation the following year to lead them back into the Premiership as skipper.

Ben Hooper, who can play on either side of the front row, featured in five meetings between Leeds and Rotherham last season, including starting both league and play-off games at tight-head.

Leeds head coach Diccon Edwards said: “Ben impressed us in all our meetings with Rotherham and he will be a good addition to our front-row options, with Mo Mustafa and Sam Lockwood all battling for the starting prop positions.

“He is passionate about Leeds Carnegie, having been a fan of the club since his days supporting his brother, and I know he is looking forward to becoming a Leeds player.”
