DOMINANT forward play from the off and clinical finishing helped Yorkshire win the National Under-20 County Championship by defeating Northumberland 53-20 at Twickenham.

It was revenge for the white rose, who suffered a surprise 39-10 defeat in the 2014 decider.

But there was little chance of an upset this time as Yorkshire, who are always the team to beat at this level, were 14-0 ahead after 15 minutes with tries by Hamish Hughes and Guy Coser, both converted by Chris Bell.

Northumberland's Samuel Busby scored a sensational try to bring them back into the game before Yorkshire scored tries through Ben Winterburn and Jonny Coser (Guy's brother) to make it 26-7, Bell adding another conversion.

Alex Ball showed his composure to slot two penalties either side of half-time for Northumberland as they threatened a comeback, but Yorkshire scored a succession of tries as Northumberland tired through James Wright, Hamish Hughes, Ralph Wellock (Wharfedale), Robbie Kent, George Hedgley (Wharfedale) and a conversion from Sam Gaudie to extend their lead to 53-13.

A late try from Northumberland's Michael Searle, converted by Ball, narrowed the final margin to 33 points.

Driving mauls brought the Coser brothers their tries early in the first half, while Jonny Coser also showed his speed to set up Wright's excellent try in the second half, Wellock's try also being a choice one.
