AIREBOROUGH were deserving winners of the Spray Plant UK Ltd Aire-Wharfe Plate final on a chilly night at Nunroyd Park.

The hosts built up a 15-3 half-time lead via tries by lock Chris Blackshaw and winger Kris Brook, who capitalised on a kind bounce from his own kick ahead, Ryan Sample adding a penalty and a conversion.

Richard Tafa had levelled with a penalty for the Bees in the 13th minute, but the Yorkshire Division Three hosts sealed victory in the 49th minute when Tom Copsey crossed in the left corner, Tom Houldsworth adding a superb conversion.

The Bees had Sam White sin-binned for an offence in the build-up to the try, and Aire added further tries by flanker Jonny Mackey and replacement centre Mark Druce.

Aireborough are at home to Bramley Phoenix on Saturday, and could send their visitors down if they win, thereby saving fellow derby rivals Baildon.

Otley complete their National League Two North programme with a home derby against Harrogate, but the match has a 5.30pm kick-off due to the Tour de Yorkshire cycle race, which passes the Cross Greeners' road end at 8.15am (women) and 2.15pm (men).

There will be all-day entertainment at Cross Green, with breakfast from 8am and a barbecue at noon, plus live music, a bouncy castle and, following the race live, big screens. Parking is available across the road at Craftsman’s Tools.
