Leslie Bentley, one of the most important administrators in Yorkshire rugby union over the past 60 years, has died aged 93.

Shipley-based 'Legs', whose nickname came from his prowess as a sprinter when he was younger - he could run 100 yards in ten seconds - was capped four times by Yorkshire in the 1947-48 season.

Captain of Bradford Rugby Union Club for two seasons, he joined their selection committee around 1950, starting his long association with administration, and was on the Yorkshire RFU committee for some 40 years.

The father-in-law of noted writer Gervase Phinn, 'Legs' received the Torch Trophy Trust award in 2005 from the Princess Royal in recognition of his service.
