Yorkshire Division Four North West: Wibsey 21 Leeds Corinthians 13

WIBSEY'S rugby manager Steve Brooke feels that visitors Leeds Corinthians made a tactical error in the first half of their top-of-the-table Yorkshire Division Four North West clash at Northfield Road.

He said: "They played with the wind in the first half, but then never really capitalised on it, whereas in the second half we used 'Les' (James Sawyer) and Brad Wright to ping the ball into the corners and wait for errors."

With leaders Corinthians also opting to stick the ball up their jumpers, the opening 25 minutes were very forward oriented, with the visitors taking the lead with a converted try in the 27th minute.

They added a penalty three minutes later, which was kicked from inside their own half, but with Wibsey hoping that they didn't add a try or two before half-time, the third-placed hosts struck a vital blow just before the interval.

Wright was involved in a sweeping attack which was finished off by winger Jack Cull's debut senior try, with Wright adding the conversion.

Although the visitors added a penalty to make the half-time score 13-7, it was still happy days for Wibsey, who narrowed the deficit to a point with a try by man of the match Kyle Carter, whose outrageous dummy was bought by the entire Corinthians defence, giving him a big enough gap to go over.

Wright missed that conversion and a 71st-minute penalty, but added others in the 54th, 60th and 77th minutes to not only give Wibsey victory but also deny Corinthians a bonus point in what is proving a very tight division.

Only four points separate leaders Knaresborough from fifth-placed Bramley Phoenix in the battle for the top four places to go forward to the 'Super Eights'.

Luke Wilson, usually a winger, had a storming game in his new position of flanker, but also playing well were Cull and Yorkshire trialist Sam Foulds.

The only negatives were injuries to skipper James Brown (knee) and Luke Helliwell (ankle).
