National League Two North: Luctonians 26 Wharfedale 14

THIS was another disappointing result, but not a disappointing performance.

A closely-contested first half ended with Luctonians leading 13-8, which was deserved as they had spent long periods in Dale’s half.

Louis Silver started the scoring with a penalty after 23 minutes before Pierce Morell touched down after a short period of scrappy play close to Dale’s line, with Silver adding the two points.

Dale then forced their way into the match and were rewarded with a penalty kick by Robbie Davidson, but a minute later Silver responded with another three pointer.

However, Wharfedale finished the first half strongly, with Josh Burridge crashing over for an unconverted try.

The home side extended their lead when Morell managed to break a tackle for his second converted try.

Butg back came Wharfedale and, with the scrum driving forward, a series of penalties followed.

Davidson slotted two long[range penalties from 48 and 46 metres, and the Green Machine were only a score away from winning the match.

The home side then pressed again, however, and two successful penalties took the match away from Dale ar 26-14.

The final period of the game was all Wharfedale, who deserved a try and a losing bonus point.

They did everything but score and travelled home with their heads high.
