YORKSHIRE Carnegie will give 23-year-old fly half Callum Irvine the chance to fulfil an ambition to become a full-time professional player for next season after he agreed a one- year contract with the club.

The former Harrogate fly half moves to Yorkshire Carnegie after impressing with Hull Ionians last season.

Irvine, a former Scottish junior international, came through the youth system at Harrogate and made his debut for them when he was just 17.

He spent five seasons at the club and made over 100 appearances before moving to Ionians.

Irvine had been set to join Championship side Doncaster Knights in 2015 but the move fell through after the fly half suffered an ankle injury in pre-season.

Carnegie's head coach James Lowes said: "Callum is a player with a lot of potential and he will be a good addition to our squad for next season.

"For a young player, he already has a lot of game experience playing in the national leagues and I am sure he will benefit from being part of our training environment.”

* Yorkshire Carnegie will face London Scottish at Richond in their opening fixture of the 2017-18 Greene King IPA Championship season on the first weekend in September.

Carnegie host Doncaster Knights on the third weekend, and Rotherham Titans on the first weekend in December.

Knights will stage the return fixture on the last weekend of the year, while Titans will entertain Carnegie on week 21 in mid-April.
