DAVE Duxbury, the coach who took Baildon to Twickenham glory, returns to his old club on Saturday with his Skipton team.

At stake are not only derby bragging rights but a place in the Yorkshire Silver Trophy final.

During Duxbury's three-year tenure, Baildon defeated Harrow 6-3 in the 2012 RFU Junior Vase final and returned to HQ the following year, losing 58-29 to classy Newent.

The Jenny Laners also achieved promotion from Yorkshire Division Three under the former Ilkley coach in 2012-13 and won the Yorkshire Silver Trophy in 2012.

It is the first time that Duxbury has returned to Baildon for a competitive match with Skipton, although they have played a pre-season friendly and a festive friendly there this season.

He said: "I came to Baildon because of three people – Mick Massey, Phil Wilson and Andy Pollard, all of whom I had known for years.

"Also I had ambitions to coach on my own and at Ilkley I was being pushed and pulled and had been asked to run the second team when I had been helping Robin Kay out with the first team.

"I always try to bring organisation to a club and I try and keep things simple. It is not rocket science.

"In some ways the best thing at Baildon was us winning the Silver Trophy as a lot of players were unavailable and it proved that we had strength in depth, with the older players bringing the younger ones on, which we hadn't had when I first came there.

"Then West Park came calling and players get tired of listening to the same voice after two or three years, which is something that Alex Ferguson said.

"You either change the team or you change the coach – and he kept changing the team."

Duxbury, who has returned to Jenny Lane for a league match with West Park Leeds since leaving Baildon, added: "I am really looking forward to tomorrow's match.

"Both of us are missing players but it should be a proper game of rugby and hopefully there will be a decent crowd and we can all retire to the clubhouse afterwards to watch England v Ireland."

Baildon coach Andy Pollard revealed that Dan Cookson, Robbie Hill and Sam Robinson will be missing but that Adam Hewitt, who followed Duxbury to West Park Leeds, is back.

Pollard said: "It should be a good game and we are going into it having played well last weekend against Wensleydale."

Baildon are seventh in Yorkshire Division Three, having won their first seven matches but lost ten of their last 15, while Skipton are leading Yorkshire Division Four but have lost two of their last four.

Duxbury said: "We are having a difficult time with injuries at the moment. Hemsworth will probably win the championship but a win and a bonus point should be enough for us to be promoted as runners-up."

The Baildon and Skipton second teams play a curtain-raiser at 1.15pm.
