Yorkshire Division Five: Sheffield Oaks 9 Wibsey 28

WIBSEY secured the championship with one of the tries of the season.

Kyle Carter finished off a dazzling move in the 75th minute that went though about ten pairs of hands.

The try not only sealed Wibsey's victory but also gained them a crucial bonus point.

They are now ten points ahead of Mosborough with two matches remaining, but even if Mosborough were to win those and previously unbeaten Wibsey lose those, Mosborough would still only have 11 victories to Wibsey's 12.

On a day that reminded the visitors of playing at Beldon Lane, Oaks had first use of a strong wind, but rarely looked like scoring a try.

They managed penalties in the third and 24th minutes, adding a drop goal in the 28th minute to secure a 9-7 interval lead.

Wibsey's first-half points came from a 17th-minute try by Bryn Worsley that was converted by Brad Wright.

The introduction of Chris Clough five minutes into the second half helped to turn the contest.

He intercepted on the halfway line to score in the 49th minute, but was flopped on over the line by an Oaks flanker, which led to a melee, both the Oaks player and Wibsey's teenage winger Elliott Culling, who ran in from distance to join the fracas, being yellow carded.

Clough and man of the match James Brown, for his work around the base of a retreating scrum, then made good ground down the left in the 63rd minute, with skipper Brown giving Clough the final pass.

Wright converted all three second-half tries.
