Yorkshire Division Three: Leeds Medics & Dentists 41 Baildon 19

BAILDON had won the home fixture comfortably, but had caught the Medics in an early-season fixture match before some of their players had either returned to university or become freshmen.

Medics showed attacking intent from the off, putting the visitors under pressure and taking the lead with a converted try, with skipper Phil Gardiner providing the scoring pass.

Although Tom Wilson, Ryan Kershaw, Andy Magee and Danny Pollard were involved in an attack of six phases for Baildon, they almost conceded a second try when miscommunication almost let the hosts in.

But it wasn't long before inside centre George Veall showed his paces to waltz in under the posts for a second converted try for Medics, Baildon prop Joe Robinson then being removed with concussion.

The visitors pressed again, however, via man of the match Matty Robinson and Matty Dixon and came within five metres before being penalised, but they were not to be benied for long, Kershaw driving for the line after a tap penalty before Will Tomlinson scored for Robinson to convert.

However, Baildon then lost Dixon (back) and Sam Simons (shoulder) in a game of fair but ferocious hits, and veterans Phil Wilson and coach Andy Pollard replaced them at half-time.

Consecutive penalties for holding on at the breakdown and talking back to the referee gave Medics the platform for their third try, and Robinson not only had to pull off a try-saving tackle on Veall to prevent number four, but won turnover ball and a subsequent penalty.

But Robinson undid his hard work by passing to a Medics player, who simply flopped over the line for the bonus-point try.

Afyer sustained Baildon pressure, Medics then spooned the ball over their own line for Pollard to snatch the easiest of tries and make it 26-12.

A late Baildon revival was in the air but Medics had other ideas, offloading their way to a fifth try.

Good work by Tom Wilson and Nathan King forced Medics into coneding a five-metre scrum and, although Phil Wilson was denied, scrum half Jack Aaron burrowed over to score, Robinson converting from the touchline.

In fading light, Medics added two more tries, the last by Veall in a game that was well refereed by Sam Hunter (South Yorkshire).
