National League Two North: Scunthorpe 23 Otley 14

OTLEY'S hopes of an away win were dashed by newly-promoted Scunthorpe, who took their chances.

However, their visitors showed a marked inability to finish enough of those that they created, which would have resulted in them achieving their goal.

They started off well, full back Tom Hodson kicking penalties on three and 17 minutes as Scunthorpe creaked under the pressure but their continuity was missing.

Try-scoring opportunities were wasted and Otley began to find trouble in the tight, losing possession in their 22 and allowing lock Nick Dyson to stroll over under the posts for centre Steve Johnson to convert and take the lead.

Otley were presented with an opportunity when, on 28 minutes, Scunthorpe full back Colin Chapman was shown a yellow card, Hodson kicking the penalty, but they failed to prosper while having the extra man.

Their short spell in the lead expired on 34 minutes when they were caught offside in front of the posts for Johnson to knock over the easy kick for a one-point half-time lead.

This was extended after the break when Scunthorpe drove from a line-out.

They crashed over but were held up, only to take the scrum for Paul Cook to score, once again under the posts for another simple conversion, and Johnson moved his side further ahead with a 51st-minute penalty.

With time running out, scrum half Max Johnson snuck in at the corner for Otley but there was no sign of a late rally, and another Scunthorpe penalty finished them off.
