OTLEY, who host Preston Grasshoppers tomorrow, are seeking a tight-head prop as they bid to make headway in National League Two North.

Director of rugby Peter Clegg said: “Our first two choices are unavailable.

“George Burkinshaw is doing a sterling job for us, but he is a loose-head and props are difficult to come by.

“At least Tiploma Kivalu is available after this Saturday when his suspension ends.”

WHARFEDALE’S director of coaching James Doherty reckons that some of the new boys will know a bit more about The Avenue roar after their 38-32 home victory over South Leicester last Saturday.

He said: “The crowd were great, and a few of the lads won’t have experienced that.

“There is nothing like it, and it is good to stand in the tunnel afterwards and listen to it.”

Doherty added: “Maybe the fans understood our desperation to win after the disappointing loss at Tynedale, and it was our way of saying sorry to those who had travelled up there to watch us.

“The most pleasing thing was that we proved we had some fight and some character, and hopefully Tynedale was just a blip.”

Their second victory of the season lifted Wharfedale one place to 11th, above Otley, but the Greens are conceding an average of almost 32 points while scoring 27.

Doherty said: “I don’t want us to be a side that wins because we score six tries to their five but we are playing a high-risk, high-reward game.

“We might lose the ball in our 22, and our set-piece, although getting better, is not perfect, but we are a work in progress.”

Wharfedale’s only change is Josh Prell on the wing for Ollie Cicognini.
