Yorkshire Division Five: Garforth 20 Wibsey 41

WIBSEY travelled with a strong squad, which included a full complement of five substitutes, while Garforth, despite them playing a second-team match on an adjacent pitch, had only one.

Dan Hartley, who had replaced player-coach Andy (popped rib cartilage) after just five minutes, put the visitors ahead in the 11th minute with a try that Stuart Fisher converted.

Garforth hit back with a penalty but Wibsey crossed again in the 23rd minute via Chris Clough who threw such an outrageous dummy on his way to the line that four home defenders went the wrong way.

Fisher's conversion made it 14-3, but although the hosts clawed their way back via three penalties, Fisher responded with a penalty of his own to make it 17-12.

However, a pin-point Fisher kick brought winger Luke Wilson a try just before the interval, putting Wibsey 22-12 ahead.

Garforth decided that a more adventurous approach was the best way to go in the second half, and scored a try and a penalty to make it 22-20 after 54 minutes.

But the visitors held their nerve with a Bryn Worsley try two minutes later that was improved by Fisher.

Wibsey then got on the wrong end of the referee, having Marcus Grimes (65 minutes), Jon Nall (76) and Simon Birkbeck (78) sin-binned, but managed tries by Elliott Gray (72), which Fisher improved, and Isaac Khan (80) as their improved fitness showed.
