WEST Leeds, who have already pocketed the Yorkshire Division Two title after a season-long battle with Keighley. have added the RFU Senior Vase to their collection after defeating Cornwall& Devon League's Withycombe 42-22 at Twickenham.

Withycombe initially struggled to deal with the speed, energy and intensity of the Blue Hill Lane side, three tries in the opening 15 minutes from skipper Sam Neave (2), one coming from his own half, and former Leeds Rhinos player Mark Calderwood all converted by Dale Breakwell, putting them 21-0 ahead as they bid to make up for last season's 16-10 final defeat to Bromley.

However, Withycombe took advantage of a yellow card for West Leeds scrum half Gaz Stokes to bounce back impressively with three tries of their own either side of half-time to make it 21-17, only for West Leeds to finish them off with late tries by No 8 James Damarell, a brilliant effort by full back Danny Booth and replacement Keir Breakwell, Dale Breakwell converting two.

That made it 41-17 before Withycombe grabbed a consolation try.

"I'm honoured to be captain of this side," said Neave. "Having lost last year, it's amazing to win at Twickenham this time and to score twice made it even more special for me."

West Leeds' bid for a treble continues with their Yorkshire Shield quarter-final replay at Bradford Salem on Wednesday (7.30).
