Yorkshire Division Three: Baildon 10 Wetherby 48

LEADERS Wetherby haven't lost a league match for two seasons, but Baildon made the contest close for an hour.

On a sunny day, both teams wanted to play rugby, with Baildon going close via a line-out five metres out and a long mispass from JJ O'Connell that just evaded Matty Robinson.

With the home defence also solid, Phil Wilson putting in one particularly big hit, it took Wetherby almost 30 minutes to breach the Jenny Laners, but they responded by winning two scrums against the head – a rare reverse for the leaders.

Having conceded a second try before half-time, Baildon dared to dream about overturning a ten-point deficit, but hopes were dimmed when they put the ball directly into touch from the kick-off, Wetherby making them pay with a third try.

The next kick-off was spot-on, man of the match Matty Dixon turning the ball over and Guy Price and Lewis Morgan going close before O'Connell's half-break gave Dixon the chance to score in the corner, O'Connell converting.

However, they only added an O'Connell penalty as Wetherby made their fitness count in the final quarter in a game that was excellently refereed by John Taylor.
